FOCHABERS Village Association (FVA) are looking ahead to a more fruitful new year after unveiling their AGM date for just after the turn of the year.

The group has recently held its first face-to-face meetings for both the Hall Committee and Gala and Events Committee following the various lockdowns.

Gala and Events Committee chairwoman Liz Rennie said: "I'm afraid this year is still stripped back to basics in terms of light switch-ons and ceremonies.

"As there was no gala in the summer and with restrictions still in place around schools, there were no gala VIPs chosen and therefore no-one to do the honours for the usual Christmas lights switch on.

"We have kept it very simple and it was mainly be the street lights which went on. Two years ago we had started the process of looking at improving the lights across the square. The tiny tree lights are no longer fit for purpose as the trees have grown quite a bit and we were looking for ideas of how to light them up. We tried lighting up the trunks of some of the trees however it didn't quite have the same impact as lighting up that avenue of trees in the square.

"To improve these lights would also be a costly business, so the next job is to think about fund raising again and also potential ways of seeking grants to help.

The AGM is set to be held on Wednesday, January 12 at 7.30pm in the Public Institute. This will also serve as an opportunity to relaunch many of the community activities put on hold by the Covid pandemic.

FVA will be delighted to welcome new members to come along and add their ideas and enthusiasm to the group. Although there will not be much to reflect on for the year past the FVA are hoping to use the meeting to look ahead to the future.

The FVA are a development trust which was formed in 2013. The group are owned and managed by the community.
