IT will be time to get those running shoes on and blow away the festive cobwebs when the Buckie Sair Heidie run makes its annual return.

The popular, fun event is due back on New Year's Day, with registration opening at 10.15am in the Episcopal Church hall on West Church Street. Those walking the route will get under way from outside the hall at 10.20am while runners will be under starter's orders at 11am.

Clocking in at 4.8 miles, the route takes participants out through Strathlene and back through Rathven, finishing back outside the church hall.

Organiser Phill Thompson said: "The Sair Heidie has been going for over 20 years now so we'll be delighted to welcome people along to this traditional Buckie event.

"All raffle donations will be gratefully received, together with donations for additional prizes to increase the prize list.

"Enjoy a fly cup and a piece when you finish, again any donations of food on the day would be most welcome.

"Any help on the day – for example, with registration or riding a lead bike to guide the runners – would also be appreciated.

"We would also welcome any local amateur photographer who could take photos of the runners at the start and end of the race.

"So why not come along and those sair heads!"

Participants in the Sair Heidie must be aged 16 or over due to the run being held on open roads. All runners and walkers participate at their own risk.

Entry costs £5, with raffles available at £1 per strip. All proceeds will be donated to Buckie Salvation Army’s Food Larder.

There will be prizes for the first male and female runners home.
