POLICE Scotland has appealed for information after a 44-year-old taxi driver was assaulted and robbed.

The incident happened in the Linkwood Road area of Elgin, near to the Linkwood Distillery.

The incident happened at around 11.10pm on Thursday, August 20 after the taxi driver picked up a man in the Langstane area who was looking to be taken to Lhanbryde at around 11pm.

The man responsible is described as being aged between 20-30 years, about 5ft 6ins and was wearing a light brown coloured jacket with a hood. He was also wearing a dark coloured scarf around his face and dark coloured gloves. He is described as speaking with an Eastern European accent.

Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson said: "This was a serious incident which resulted in a taxi driver being treated at hospital for facial injuries. While he has not been seriously injured he has been left shaken by what happened.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw a man matching the description given late on Thursday evening in the Langstane area, Reikit Lane or Linkwood Road areas to contact us on 101.

"It is an unusual type of incident for the area and we would ask that anyone with knowledge contact us or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous."
