Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson has asked Post Office management to look into providing an interim service to customers in the town during the current closure.

The MSP has been contacted by Post Office Limited who advised that Buckie Post Office has had to temporarily close “due to the wide-ranging effects of the coronavirus pandemic”.

Mr Stevenson said: “I wish all the staff of Buckie Post Office well and hope they stay safe and are back at their front-line posts before too long.

“Clearly, the safety and welfare of our postal workers must come first in a situation like this. However, as the largest town in Banffshire and one which has lost two of its banks in recent times, the Post Office is a lifeline service.

“Both the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Clydesdale Bank were keen to use the fact customers could obtain cash and make deposits at the Post Office as justification for pulling out of Buckie.

"The Post Office is therefore vital for people to continue to have access to money and be able to make deposits at this time.

“I’ve therefore asked senior management at the Post Office if a mobile service or other temporary arrangement can be out in place in the meantime.”

Updates on the situation at Buckie Post Office can be found on its Facebook page.
