BUCKIE's very own football invincibles are set to have their achievements hailed by the Scottish Parliament.

September saw Buckie Ladies complete back to back doubles, winning both the Highlands and Islands League and League Cup. Capping their season, the club have an eye on no fewer than three honours at the upcoming Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) awards.

Buckie Ladies FC itself is in the running for the Most Sustainable Club while manager Laura Duncan – who has just finished her first season as a manager – has been nominated in the Volunteer of the Year category. With eight shut outs in 15 league and cup games, 18-year-old goalkeeper Sophia Golebiewski must be a strong candidate to land the Highlands and Islands Player of the Year honour.

However, whatever the result of the SWF awards on November 25, Buckie Ladies' achievements will be lauded by MSPs after local MSP Karen Adam tabled a congratulatory motion at Holyrood.

She said: "Buckie Ladies Football Club are a true inspiration and fully deserves all the plaudits. It's a proper community club whose coaching for all ages empowers women and girls.

"I was lucky enough to join a training session a while back and saw first-hand the dedication of all involved; it was truly inspiring.

"I wish all at Buckie Ladies Football Club continued success and look forward to seeing the club grow and empower even more women and girls."

The Banffshire and Buchan MSP's motion text reads: That the Parliament commends Buckie Ladies FC for its well-deserved nomination in the category of Most Sustainable Club at the upcoming Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) Awards, scheduled to take place on 25 November 2023 at Hampden Park; believes that this nomination is a testament to the club's diligent efforts in promoting football across various age groups, alongside its remarkable success on the football field, including clinching two consecutive Highlands and Islands League titles and League Cup titles; acknowledges the outstanding individual nominations, with Buckie Ladies FC manager, Laura Duncan, being nominated for Volunteer of the Year, and the team's goalkeeper, Sophia Golebiewski, being nominated for Highlands and Islands Player of the Year, and warmly congratulates Buckie Ladies FC on these remarkable achievements.
