THERE was a very special visitor to Buckie's RNLI lifeboat station just before Christmas.

Santa himself took some time out from his busy seasonal preparation to swing his sleigh by the station on Sunday, December 18. While there he met up with RNLI mascot Stormy Stan and presented him with a cheque for £600.

The money was raised at ‘Jim’s Special Open’ golf competition, organised annually by Jim Gordon and which took place at Spey Bay Golf Club in June. Over one hundred golfers competed representing clubs across the Moray coast area.

Santa also brought a sack full of sweeties for the children of the town’s volunteer lifeboat crew.

Davie Grant, coxswain of Buckie Lifeboat, said “This is a most generous donation which will go toward training for our existing crew – and also for the new crew members who we are currently recruiting.

"In thanking Mr Gordon, we’d also like to thank all the golfers who took part in the competition and raised the funds.”

Buckie Lifeboat was just one of the charities benefitting from the event and, in addition to the ‘warm feeling’ of supporting local charities, competitors also received a warming free dram of whisky and some tablet.
