PICTURES: Care homes put best foot forward to raise cash for good causes

SCHOOLS and community groups across the north and north-east are set to benefit after care home residents and staff took part in a walking and wheeling challenge.
The fundraising challenge was set by Buckie-based Parklands Care Homes as part of its 30th celebrations. Care homes were challenged to cover as much distance as possible over a 30-day period in October, later extended into November because of poor weather conditions.
With donations from the public matched by Parklands, the fundraising challenge raised a total of £1500 which will be shared between Aberlour Community Association, Keith Primary School, Buckie and District Cancer Support Group, Cullen Volunteer Group, Tarradale Primary School in Muir of Ord and Badenoch and Strathspey Community ConnXions. Each group will receive £250.
Parklands homes in Buckie, Cullen, Keith, Aberlour, Grantown and Muir of Ord took part in the challenge which was won by Netherha care home in Buckie. Throughout the challenge, residents and staff were joined by local schools, walking groups and friends from the local community.
Netherha will receive a £500 Moray Loves Local gift card to spend in the local community.
Elaine Taylor, Operations Director at Parklands Care Homes, said: “We’re grateful to everyone who supported our fundraising challenge, either by donating or by joining our teams on their regular walks.
"Thanks to their support, community groups across the region will each receive £250. Our communities have been the backbone of our success over the past 30 years, and we’re delighted that we have been able to support local groups held dear by our residents and staff.”
Parklands has also recently launched its new Pathway Fund, designed to support community projects that leave a lasting legacy. Around £30,000 is expected to be made available to community groups and good causes every year.
Ms Taylor added: “We’ve had a tremendous response to the Pathway Fund, with applications from across the region.
"Those we’ve received so far are of a very high standard and we hope to announce our first tranche of funding very soon. It’s not too late to apply, though, and we’d encourage other local groups to submit applications.”
