SOME of the darkest nights of the year have been lent a lot of festive cheer and sparkle thanks to Christmas lights displays.

Buckie, Portknockie, Findochty and Fochabers in the local area joined communities across Moray and beyond in adorning buildings and lampposts alike with festive scenes or those from the nativity. Unsurprisingly, Santa himself made more than one or two appearances in the displays.

The displays were testament to the hard work and dedication of the volunteer teams who not only repair and instal the lights and take them down again, but also fundraise tirelessly throughout the year to provide the funds to make it all possible. An extra burden was added last year to many of these committees when Storm Arwen tore through the north-east, causing many thousands of pounds worth of damage to local displays alone.
