Parents in pregnancy and/or with under-3s are being invited along to taster sessions on mental health support.

Following a successful project last year researching what works in peer-support and parent and infant mental health, Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC, Children 1st and UHI are partnering again to take the next steps from their learning.

On Thursday, August 10 in Forres (children welcome) and Thursday, August 24 in Buckie (parents only but expenses can be paid to cover childcare) the spotlight will fall on what being a peer supporter/researcher looks like with the focus on mental health support and education for parents.

The Forres session will be hosted by Transition Town Forres while at the time of writing a venue for the Buckie session still had to be confirmed.

Booking is essential – visit https://www.tickettailor.com/

The project will explore this, empowering local parents with training around holding groups and providing evidence-based mental health information in sessions. Alongside this they will listen and record what is working well or could be better as part of a research approach.

This will be well supported with expenses, training and support from all the partner organisations, and it is hoped that keen parents will see this opportunity as a way to improve the supports on offer to other parents in Moray.

Alongside an open call for any parents to sign up and get involved, the hope is to also support parents from groups that face higher rates of isolation and stigma. In particular this will include parents with looked after children. Children 1st bringing their expertise and building on their existing work with this group to include them as part of the wider training and support on offer.

A light lunch will be provided.

Parents who do not feel comfortable leaving their children in childcare or do not have any childcare support should let the organisers know by emailing hello@moraywellbeinghub.org.uk
