Moray mobile Covid testing plans hailed by Buckie councillor
PLANS to bring mobile Covid testing units to Moray have been welcomed by a Buckie councillor.
Following a recent statement in the Scottish Parliament by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, regions across the country are being tasked with submitting community testing pilot plans.
In the Grampian region, it is proposed that Moray will have two mobile sites which will travel between the main towns and employers.
The intention is to provide testing in areas of higher risk or prevalence of the virus, with the mobile approach believed to provide a better response in the area than a fixed permanent site.
It is intended to site the testing stations in areas of maximum footfall such as supermarket car parks or taking them directly to large employment sites.
News of the scheme was warmly welcomed by Buckie councillor Sonya Warren.
She said: "This is good news and it will improve the situation for folk in our more rural communities, too.
"It's not always easy to get to even somewhere like Elgin so having mobile units will be a big benefit to a lot of people."
It is understood that staff will have to be recruited to run the service for a period of 12 weeks.
Each local authority is responsible for delivery of the sites within their area, Environmental Health will oversee the operation in Moray and establish the sites and staffing arrangements.
