Thieves broke into the Moray Metals Ltd workshop at March Road Industrial Estate, making off with a haul of 89 pieces of equipment and tools worth thousands of pounds, including a welder generator.

While the architectural iron works company has been broken into before, this incident has proved the final straw for gutted owner Adam Desmier, who founded the firm in 2013 after moving from his native Yorkshire with wife Leah, two sons and a daughter.

"I’d say it was definitely a well-planned job by people who knew what they were after," the former project engineer said. "They would ha’ve needed a big van to take away all of the stuff they stole and they knew exactly what they were looking for.

"This business was my dream; I’d been self-employed before but I wanted a workshop of my own where I could create on my own kind of stuff. I thought it’d be something different for Buckie as there’s nothing like it here. It looked like a nice place to start out because it was a safe area."

Mrs Desmier explained how the break-in had impacted on the whole family, who are now looking to start their lives over again, which may herald a move back down south.

Moray Metals will close its doors for the final time on April 1.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
