The changing shape of the Moray coastline due to climate change is at the heart of a series of community consultations.

Moray Council is inviting people and groups to input into a new process for adapting to changes to the coastline due to climate change.

Coastal Change Adaptation Plans are being drawn up to give the local authority a clearer process for managing coastal assets and decision making based on evidence from coastal monitoring.

Decisions will be based on achieving specific triggers, including coastal erosion, sea level rise, coastal flooding, existing defences and their condition.

The decision route is not fixed and can result in a number of outcomes ranging from no intervention to maintaining defences and planning for asset relocation.

These decisions and triggers will be identified and consulted on at a series of local events being held to develop the plans.

The events will collate feedback from the community on the current level of understanding of coastal change and opinion on the proposed direction that the council is taking on the management of coastal assets. There will be both a digital survey and paper survey available.

The following events all run from 2pm-7pm: Monday, June 26, Cullen Plan – Cullen Sea School, Port Long Road, Cullen; Tuesday, June 27, Lossiemouth Plan – Lossiemouth Town Hall, Lossiemouth; Wednesday, June 28, Buckie/Portessie & Portgordon Plans – Fisherman’s Hall, Buckie; Thursday, June 29, Kingston Plan – Speymouth Hall, Mosstodloch.

Any queries from the community should be directed to flooding@moray.gov.uk and include CCAP Community Engagement in the subject.
