RE-ZONING proposals for the catchment areas for some of Moray’s secondary schools will be presented to parents and interested parties from today.

Milne's High is one of the schools being re-zoned.

The council is proposing to vary the catchment areas for Forres Academy, Lossiemouth High School, Elgin Academy, Elgin High School and Milne’s High School.

Some zones date back to the 1970s and pre-Grampian days, but the development and population growth in Moray since then means these boundaries are increasingly irrelevant.

The children and young people’s services committee last year agreed the key principles for rezoning.

A period of statutory consultation commences today and ends at 5pm on March 24. This includes a number of public meetings to gather views and discuss the proposals.

Any interested stakeholders that can’t make it to the meetings may respond to the consultation by email to futureschools@moray.gov.uk or completing the consultation form at www.moray.gov.uk/rezoning or by writing to:

Secondary School Rezoning Consultation, The Moray Council, Community Support Unit, High Street, Elgin IV30 1BX

In tandem with the re-zoning consultation, the council is seeking feedback on its revised admissions policy. This governs such issues as placement requests. Parents and interested parties can make representations at the same meetings or by the same methods as for the re-zoning.

The final proposals will be submitted to the council’s Children and Young People’s Services Committee, and if approved will be implemented on October 24.

A public meeting will be held at Milne’s HIgh School, Fochabers on Tuesday, February 16 from 7-8.30pm.
