PUPILS from a Buckie primary school took the message of The Big Help Out to heart when they turned up to help at a local warm bank.

The campaign, which aims to promote and encourage volunteering and community spirit, certainly chimed with Millbank Primary's P6/7 class when they popped along to Buckie Salvation Army's warm bank on Wednesday, May 10.

Cara Kennie, the Salvation Army's Employment Plus Employment Development Co-ordinator for Moray and Aberdeenshire, said: "Our chef Dave Chambers set up two work stations for them to prepare fresh pesto twists and pizza rolls for the attendees to eat along with their soup, and then had them make fresh tortilla wraps for themselves.

"They thoroughly enjoyed making the food, and tasting it, too. The guests did too, all the food was eaten!

"The pupils then assisted with serving the guests tea, coffee, soup and their freshly made bakes. Some helped with the clearing, others with the dishes, and then some completed coronation crosswords with the guests.

"They were a lovely class, and it really lifted the spirits of the guests. It was a lovely thing to do for the community, we enjoyed having them, and hope to do it again in the future."

Ms Kennie added that the youngsters are also fundraising for the local Salvation Army food larder food larder.
