CONCERNS over repair works by SSE in the Rathven area has seen a local councillor write to the company's chief executive.

Buckie and Findochty councillor Neil McLennan took the step after concerns were raised with him by local residents in the aftermath of Storm Gerrit.

He explained: "A number of Rathven residents contacted me during and after the recent storms.

"They noted that recent repair works in the area had exacerbated serious flooding in the village. I went to the site of the concerns on the day of the storm and have returned several times since to get updates.

"On the day itself, water was clearly gathering in a concerning way in residents properties and surrounds, meanwhile a large amount of water was gathering in what can only be called 'a moat' around Rathven Church and also water was literally gushing out the church property's surrounding wall. It was quite a shocking sight to see, on a concerning day for all impacted."

Councillor McLennan is now in contact with SSE and went on to praise their ongoing response to the issue.

He continued: "I contacted SSE on behalf of residents and am now in direct and regular contact with them.

"So far, their external affairs team have been responsive and I hope they can resolve the issue soon for residents, as what we saw on the day of the storms was not pretty for residents, including vulnerable elderly residents who were very concerned as water levels rose.

"I commend SSE for their communication with me on behalf of residents and thank them for their candour."
