THERE was a peek into the future for a group Cullen pre-school kids when they got the first glimpse of their new nursery.

The nursery has for some while been housed in temporary accommodation but that is soon to be a thing of the past as a brand new, purposed-built premises is currently under construction next to the primary school.

The youngsters, accompanied by staff and helpers, recently made the short trip across the playground to see for themselves what awaits once the work is finished.

They were shown round the inside of the building, which has not as yet been fitted out, by Morrison construction senior site manager Roy Murray who pointed out some of the many features the new nursery would boast.

Pupils and staff alike were left amazed during the tour of the building when they learned of the facilities which awaited. The new nursery will offer two classrooms, a small kitchen, shower and laundry, not to mention a play area and staffroom. A special room for parents where they can wait to pick up their children in included in the design, as is underfloor heating.

Outside will be a garden area plus a toilet which can be accessed directly from there by the children.

Nursery manager Eve Matthew said: "We're all very impressed by what we've seen, it's phenomenal.

"We've seen plans of what the building will be like but it's great to actually see it, it's amazing.

"It will be a much better environment for the children and we'll have space to do a lot more things than we can at present."

Ms Matthew added that while the nursery currently has around 20 pupils on its books, it is hoped that the new premises will allow for this number to be increased.

It is hoped the nursery will be ready early in 2020.
