Thursday, March 16 will see an open public meeting held in Portessie to discuss the twin issues and how the local community can make its voice heard.

In addition to members of the public, meeting organisers have confirmed there will be a mix of local community activists, community councillors and trade union members will all be taking part. Buckie councillors Sonya Warren and John Stuart have also said they will be attending the meeting.

Following the screening of a short film entitled Offshore, which examines the past, present and future of the offshore industry, there will then be a public discussion on the cost of living crisis, the Just Transition, and the future of Buckie and other North Sea communities.

The Buckie area has provided workers for the offshore industry for decades, and will be the hub port for Scotland’s offshore largest wind farm.

Behind the meeting are a six-strong group of local people comprising Sophie Legge, Sally Thain, Charlotte Hay, David Blair, Edwin Devlin and Neil Rothnie.

The meeting will be held in Portessie Public Hall, running from 7pm to 9pm.
