A CULLEN hotel has gone blue in honour of the sacrifices being made by NHS staff in the battle against Covid-19.

The Seafield Arms, which reopened last summer after lying disused for years, has been bathed in blue light every evening for the last few weeks in a tribute to the medical and other personnel in the NHS who are being stretched to the limit to beat the coronavirus pandemic.

Hotel owner Charles Milne said: "Lighting up the hotel was the idea of the deputy manager Aillie Flett, whose sister Lois is a nurse at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"She thought it would be a nice gesture and a tribute to all the people working so hard to keep us safe and well.

"We first decided to do it four weeks ago but proved hard converting the lights to NHS blue as we had to climb up and change every single bulb.

"Next month, if we are still in lockdown, we'll change the colour in support of care workers."

Writing on the hotel Facebook page, Ms Flett said: "A heartfelt thank you to al the NHS frontline, key and volunteer workers keeping our communities safe and working round the clock to provide necessary services.

"This month we're lighting the building blue in support of you all."

Meanwhile, the scheme being operated by Mr Milne's Buckie garages – Moravian and Regency – offering checks and repairs to vehicles being run by key workers has proved popular.

"The scheme has been very busy since we brought it in," Mr Milne continued.

"We've had 19 breakdowns so far, including a pharmacy van with a seized alternator and a doctor whose car suffered a puncture."

Key workers who need to access this scheme should either call Moravian on (01542) 833977 or Regency (01542) 833050. They will be greeted by an answerphone message containing an email which should be contacted with details of their mechanical problem.

Mr Milne's has also laid his fleet of company cars and demonstrators at the disposal of Moray Council for use by key workers in Moray.
