As part of their wide-ranging plans to brighten up the town and boost its appearance, community group Buckie's Roots are planning to instal a feature at the start/terminus of the walk, which stretches to Aviemore.

The race to find the winning design has been whittles down to four final possibilities and the public are being asked to have their input into the process.

Buckie's Roots chairwoman Meg Jamieson said: "We asked Macduff Shipyards, FAL and Forsyth's all to come up with designs and we ended up going for the four submitted by Macduff as the finalists.

"We'd like to thank FAL and Forsyth's for kindly agreeing to take part.

"To help us find the winner we've begun a public consultation on our Facebook page and have placed voting slips at various points in the town, including the Co-op, the library and Time restaurant.

"We're also going to be going out and about to various events asking people's opinion about which design they like best, so if you see us, please take a minute to come over give us your opinion, we'll be delighted to hear from you.

"The aim behind this feature is to give folk something to take a photo beside when they finish the walk and then post on social media, raising Buckie's profile. We want to do everything possible to encourage people to come to the town."

The consultation is due to finish this Saturday with the winner announced shortly thereafter on the Buckie's Roots Facebook page.

Cash for the project, which the group envisage being in place by June 4, has come from a successful bid to the Bucks4Buckie participatory budgeting scheme.
