Youngsters and adults from J Fusion Dance at One Marchmont Business Centre recently made their way to Ireland to compete in the European Championships before heading off to Peterhead to take part in the Bon Accord Masters.

The journeys were to prove well worthwhile. In the Euros, a team of 16 dancers aged five up to adult netted an impressive eight first places, with 15 podium places – first, second or third place – secured.

Meanwhile, 57 J Fusion dancers headed to the Blue Toon, returning to Buckie with a stunning 21 first places and many podium places.

In both championships, the J Fusion dancers wowed the judges with their line dancing prowess.

Both competitions were held under the auspices of the World Dance Masters Federation.

Joy Morrison, who runs J Fusion Dance, said: "We're all delighted at the results from the two competitions.

"It's certainly exceeded my wildest hopes especially as I only opened the studio last June, having previously worked with another dance school since 2020.

"Before the competitions I knew they were dancing well but anything can happen at these events as the standard is so high. Since Covid everyone has been working so hard to get out of the divisions they were in before the pandemic, which just makes the challenges you face in competitions greater.

"It's very satisfying for the business, it's a very good feeling."

Team J Fusion will not have much time to rest on their laurels, though, with another stern test of their talent on the horizon in the shape of the World Championships on July 27 in Blackpool.

The dances set to feature in a season's competitions are released in September.

The school seek to nurture dancing in all ages, with students at the school currently ranging in age from just 18 months up to adult.

A wide range of dance styles are covered, such as street, show dancing, Latin, line dancing, hip hop and waltz.

Joy herself is no stranger to a trophy or two during her 25 years of dancing experience, including eight world titles, six European titles, multiple Scottish, Irish, British and French titles and is the current Allstars Open Pro-Am World Champion.
