THERE was festive cheer aplenty at Seafield Hospital and Muirton Ward when Santa and the gang swung by.

Helping the Man in Red hand out presents at what is a very busy time for him were volunteers from the Friends of Seafield and Community Patients, ably aided and abetted by youngsters from Portessie Primary School.

In addition to helping dish out the goodies, the pupils entertained the patients with a festive tune or two.

Friends chairwoman Megan Walls said: "The patients really appreciate the gifts and love to see the children and hear them sing, too.

"Many of the patients have no family nearby so it makes a big difference to them, especially at this time of year.

"We're delighted to have the Portessie pupils with us again this year.

"I'd also like to thank Buckie Tesco – and staff members Laurie and Joshua in particular – for their help in making up the gift bags."

Ms Walls added that the Friends had been busy on the fundraising front, with a quiz night and raffle raising around £500 each. The group were also grateful to the relative of an elderly patients who has sadly passed away for their donation plus all the other contributions they have received over the course of the year.

The Friends are always keen to hear from people willing to lend them a helping hand – visit the group's Facebook page for more information and to get in touch. Alternatively, message Ms Walls on 07539 966261.
