Buckie Men's Shed was launched on February 23 and has already attracted in the order of 14 members. They are currently based in the Fishermen's Hall in the town.

However, the group are keen to find a place they can call their own to allow them to kick on with a variety of plans.

Chairman Les Forman said: "We really need somewhere we can meet and do a variety of activities.

"It'd be somewhere where members can chat, have a cuppa, work on projects, anything they want to do, really.

"Until we have this sorted we're limited in what we can do so we're keen to get moving.

"We'd also love to hear from anyone who could donate tools or equipment to the men's shed."

The rise of Buckie Men's Shed from an idea to a real group has been a swift one.

Mr Forman continued: "It's all happened really quickly.

"I had been thinking about the need for a men's shed in Buckie and last year the Fishermen's Hall were advertising about a Men's Cave.

"After the new year I went to see them and told them about the vision I had for a men's shed and they were all happy to go with that.

"We had our first meeting on Thursday, February 23.

"Buckie Men's Shed has registered with the Scottish Men's Sheds Association and we're currently working to complete our charitable status with OSCR."

Meetings have to date be held at the Fishermen's Hall on Thursdays from 1pm to 4pm, although other hall bookings can mean this can change – new members thinking of popping along are advised to get in touch with Buckie Men's Shed to double check the day and time of the meeting concerned.

Open to men aged 18 and over, men's sheds have the primary goal of tackling social isolation and promoting good mental health and wellbeing among men.

Buckie Men's Shed have been leant a helping hand by the local Peoplehood project. Launched in April 2021, Peoplehood is designed to improve people’s everyday lives and make a positive impact.

Local engagement co-ordinator James Farley commented: "Peoplehood has been supporting the men's shed with data gathering.

"One of our main aims is to stop people becoming isolated so when we heard about Buckie Men's Shed it was music to our ears.

"Peoplehood in Buckie will continue to support the men's shed going forward in any way we can."

Anyone who thinks they can help Buckie Men's Shed with premises, or for more information about the group and its meetings, phone Mr Forman on 07801 855058, email buckimensshed@outlook.com or message via the group's brand new Facebook page.
