DWP unveil jobcentre expansion programme

NEW jobcentres and youth hubs are being opened to help jobseekers access tailored face-to-face support.
Temporary jobcentres are opening up across the UK – with more planned – as part of the UK government’s new Way to Work campaign to get 500,000 people a job by the end of June.
Work coaches at jobcentres are at the forefront of the UK Government’s drive to help people find their Way to Work, and many of the team recently joined the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as part of the rapid recruitment drive to hire 13,500 new work coaches.
The new jobcentres will get jobseekers into work faster by bringing them face to face with employers and encouraging them to look for work in a sector they may not have previously considered.
Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP, said: “Our team of work coaches in jobcentres and youth hubs across Scotland are at the forefront of efforts to help people prepare for employment, move into work and increase their earnings.
“The new sites are levelling up opportunity by giving claimants of all ages more face-to-face, tailored help to get into work or progress in their career.”
UK Government Minister for Scotland, Iain Stewart, added: “It’s great news that these jobcentres and Youth Hubs have opened across Scotland, with even more set to open their doors in the coming months.
"They will help jobseekers back into work and support young people to take those first crucial steps in their careers.
“Payrolled employees in Scotland are increasing at a greater monthly percentage than anywhere else in the UK, but there’s still work to be done to match more people with jobs in the sectors that need them most.”
Scotland is also home to 19 of the over 150 youth hubs now up and running across Britain helping young jobseekers access local training and job opportunities, as well as a range of services to address wellbeing needs.
Youth hub work coaches and partners are working with jobcentre-based youth employability coaches and tailored employment programmes, including Kickstart, which are ensuring quality, joined up support is accessible to those who need it.
