A BLOOMING great day is in store this Saturday when the Deskford Flower Show is held.
The show promises to be a fun afternoon for all the family as competitors in a wide range of categories and classes pit their talents – and green fingers – against each other.
Last year saw the event resumed its rightful place in summer calendar although after the pandemic although with Covid restrictions only being fully lifted a few weeks beforehand, it meant that there was some impact on the scope of the show.
However, organiser Maimie Mitchell said it should be completely back to normal this time around.
She continued: "Last year, as we made quite a late decision to have the show after the restrictions were lifted so we weren't sure what to expect, but we ended up having a good event.
"Hopefully we'll be back into the normal swing of things on Saturday.
"We're delighted to have the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire, Andrew Simpson, along to present the prizes.
"Outside the hall, we'll have Highland dancing and music, as well as a display of 20 or so vintage tractors. The tractors have proved to be very popular; we've had folk phoning asking if they can come along with their vintage tractor.
"There'll also be teas and coffees available."
Entrants from the local area and further afield battle it out for the silverware in a number of categories, including flowers, floral art, baking, vegetables and industrial.
The most coveted silverware among the contenders will be the Baldwin Cup for Most Points Overall (Gents) – won last year by Alan Morrison – and the Rose Bowl for Most Points Overall (Ladies), claimed by Rhona Lewis in 2023.
As usual, the event will be held in Deskford Community Centre, with doors opening to the public at 2pm and running through to 4.30pm, when the prizegiving is scheduled to take place.
