Dallachy ready to remember the fallen
THE finishing touches are being put to the Remembrance Sunday commemorations at Dallachy Strike Wing memorial near Spey Bay.
In time for the event, the five plaques at the top of the memorial have been regilded in gold leaf.
This has been made possible thanks to Lennox Community Council receiving a grant from SSEN Beatrice Field Fund to the tune of just over £3000.
The work was carried out by Mcgregor Memorials Limited.
The remembrance service itself is scheduled to take place Sunday, November 12 at 3.30pm when the special guest will be retired Wing Commander Morgan, formerly of RAF Coastal Command. During wartime days when Dallachy was an RAF base, Coastal Command operated from there.
One of the regilded panels on the memorial plays tribute to the naval aviation wing of the Air Force.
During World War II RAF Coastal Command was primarily charged with protecting vital transatlantic conveys from threats posed by German U-boats and the Luftwaffe.
After the service, members of the public and guests are cordially invited back to Spey Bay Community Hall for tea, coffee and homebakes. Donations made will go to Poppyscotland.
