A PUPIL at Cullen Primary School has been unveiled as one of the lucky runners-up in Moray MP Douglas Ross's annual Christmas card competition.

Five-year-old Sam Robertson was one of five youngsters to be awarded a runner-up slot in the contest, which invited primary kids from across Moray to submit their Christmas card designs.

Sam was joined by Ziggy Key (6) of St Gerardine Primary School in Lossiemouth, Rose Morrison (11) of Lhanbryde Primary School, Erin Irvine (6) from Botriphnie Primary School in Keith, and Erika Lee (10) from Dyke Primary School were the lucky runners-up.

The overall winner was Travis Beveridge (11) of Seafield Primary School in Elgin

Mr Ross has congratulated the winner, runners-up and all the young pupils from across his Moray constituency for submitting a wonderful series of designs that showcased the incredible creativity within the region’s schools, and he also thanked the local businesses for once again kindly sponsoring the competition.

He also thanked local teachers for encouraging pupils to get involved in his competition and that he was looking forward to seeing Travis’s winning entry and the other runners-up in colleagues offices and desks in the run up to Christmas.

Travis’s winning card will be sent to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, His Majesty King Charles and Mr Ross’s political colleagues and opponents as well as local businesses, charities and organisations.

He said that choosing the winner of his Christmas Card Competition is one of “the highlights of his year as a MP” but also one of the most difficult.

Mr Ross continued: “My annual Christmas card competition is one of the highlights of my year as the local MP for Moray, but also one of the most difficult to judge.

“This year’s competition was no different. There was a typically high standard of entries from pupils across the constituency but sadly there can only be one winner.

“My congratulations go to Travis for being the winner of the 2022 competition and to all those who also were selected as runners-up. The entry from Travis caught my eye as it included iconic Moray landmarks with the Cullen Viaduct, Lossie Lighthouse and Elgin Cathedral all featured.

“I want to thank every single pupil who took the time to send in their creative designs and to the local businesses for once again kindly sponsoring the competition.

“There was a whole host of fantastic entries from pupils across my constituency yet again in my annual Christmas Card competition, that made decision-making so tough.

“I’m so pleased that the entry from Cullen was chosen as a runner-up for his design and my warmest congratulations go to Sam for his entry.

“I hope Travis and the other runners-up enjoy their prizes in the run up to Christmas and I always find that seeing these cards puts me well and truly in the festive spirit.

“I look forward to seeing what excellent and creative entries come from pupils across the area at this time next year.”
