CULLEN's retained firefighting team have smashed their previous total from their Christmas charity street collection.

December 12-15 saw the team, plus the town's fire appliance adorned with suitably festive decorations, make their way around Cullen, Portknockie and Lintmill collecting for good causes while handing out some sweets.

Thanks to a mixture of their efforts and the ongoing generosity of local folk they collected a healthy £1665, up on last year's total of £1500.

Expressing their gratitude to all who supported them, the team said: "We would like to thank every single person for donating to us both digitally through our Just Giving page and in person while we were collecting cash throughout the area.

"We are ever so grateful for all the money donated and promise it will go to a good cause.

"Thank you once again to ever single person that donated, it is people like you that keep our communities thriving!"

The money will be split between the Fire Fighters' Charity and local groups, the latter recipients due to be announced shortly.
