Members of the town's fire station team were to be seen out and about on the streets of Cullen, Portknockie and the surrounding areas in the run up to Christmas, complete with collection buckets and their festively decorated fire engine.

The result was a four-figure total, as Cullen fire station Watch Commander Simon Tucker explained.

"We've raised around £1500, which is pretty much the same as last year.

"Considering how tough the economic climate is we're delighted with this total, people were very generous.

"The local community once again have been incredibly supportive and we're very grateful.

"We're having something of a change of focus in how we distribute the money we've raised. Half of it is going to the Firefighters' Charity and the rest will be divided between The Family Support Trust – which is a charity for firefighters and their families – Keiran's Legacy and the McBoyle Hall in Portknockie.

"We want to channel as much as possible back into the community."

The team at Cullen fire station are always keen to hear from people interested in becoming a retained firefighter. To find out more, and for more news, visit the fire station's Facebook page.
