TWO good causes have each been handed a three-figure boost thanks to Cullen's retained firefighters.

In the run up to Christmas the team could be seen out and about in the streets of Cullen, Portknockie and the surrounding areas they serve collecting cash for good causes.

Thanks to the ongoing support and generosity of local people they raised around £1500.

It was time recently to hand out some of the money raised to two good causes.

Receiving £250 was the Moray charity Keiran's Legacy. The cash will be used to help fund the provision of community-based automated external defibrillators and training.

The charity was created in memory of 16-year-old Moray youth Keiran McKandie who was killed in 2016 when the mountain bike he was riding and a car collided.

Cullen firefighters are set to hold a further fundraiser for Keiran's Legacy as well as the Firefighters' Charity next month in the shape of a charity car wash on Saturday, March 18. The event is due to run from 10am to 3pm at the fire station.

Also receiving a cash boost to the tune of £127 were Portknockie Community Association (PCA). In addition to running the McBoyle Hall in the village, the PCA hold a number of fundraising events throughout the year as well as planting and maintaining the hanging baskets and summer flower displays, keeping the Millennium Gardens spick and span, and the organising and setting up of the Christmas displays.

A donation of £127 will also be made to the Cullen community.

The remainder of the money raised from the Christmas street collection will be donated to the Firefighters' Charity and the Family Support Trust, which is a charity for firefighters and their families. These organisations will receive £764 and £266 respectively.
