The station's lifeboat visits officer Fiona Watt was on hand recently to accept a cheque for £310 from Barry Robertson, business director of the Crematorium and Memorial Group who operate the Moray Crematorium near Buckie.

The donation was raised at the crematorium’s Christmas remembrance service, where guest speakers are invited and there is also music and catering for the evening. The team at the crematorium select a local charity or club for attendees to donate to should they wish.

Proceeds from the evening will be put to good use supporting ongoing training for new and existing volunteer members of the RNLI’s Buckie lifeboat crew.

Presenting the gift, Mr Robertson said: “We wanted this donation to go to a charity that really makes a difference in our community.

"The RNLI is a shining example of ordinary local people working together to do extraordinary things in saving lives at sea.”

He was given a tour round the lifeboat station and the William Blannin, Buckie's Severn class all-weather lifeboat.

Mr Robertson added: "The volunteers at the RNLI are exceptionally caring and skilled and the whole process of what they do for all communities is phenomenal."

Davie Grant, coxswain of Buckie Lifeboat, added: “Only through continuing our twice-weekly training programme can our dedicated volunteer crew-members develop and sharpen their skills to ensure they are fully prepared for any call to save lives at sea in the Moray Firth.”

The crew usually hold their training sessions on a Thursday evening and a Sunday morning.
