THE day-to-day work of a school librarian was in the spotlight when Arradoul SWI held their March meeting.

Members enjoyed a talk by Stephen Leitch, who is the librarian at Buckie Community High School and Keith Grammar School. Mr Leitch talked his hosts through a typical working day at school which included book talks, book groups, story time with the Special Education Department, visits to P7 pupils, general support for both pupils and teachers and a lot of planning and researching to inspire the pupils.

He noted that it was not always a case of reading books but instead encouraging pupils to make up their own stories using props.

Another popular activity which the rural members also got to try was naming the Book in a Jar where there was a few clues in a jar suggesting what the name of the book was.

Sheila Thomas thanked Mr Leitch on behalf of Arradoul SWI for a very interesting talk.

The competition winners were: Flower of the month – 1. Veronica Thow, 2. Louis Archibald; Decorated card – 1. Sheila Sheret, 2. Sarah Carrington.

The next meeting of Arradoul SWI will be on Tuesday, April 18 when members will be joined by Maureen Thomson of Therapets. The competitions are flower of the month and a home-made gift for a dog.
