The Residents' Comfort Fund at Parklands care home in the town have been handed a cheque for £1000 thanks to the generosity of new resident Nancy Shepherd (91).

The sum was the proceeds of the sale of most of her house contents prior to moving to the care home.

Welcoming the donation, Parklands and Burnbank manager Denise Risk said: "It's extremely generous of Nancy to make this donation to the Residents' Comfort Fund and we're very grateful to her.

"We've plenty of events planned for the residents, including two live bands and a number of outings."

Nancy's daughter-in-law, Penny Shepherd, said she wanted to highlight the many ways people about to go into a care home can sell or get rid of the belongings they do not need, a task she said can seem daunting at first.

Penny continued: "It's a huge amount of work to clear a house but there're a lot of good facilities out there you can use to help you.

"Moray Council's bulky uplift system is great, they'll collect five items for only £28.10.

"George Watt Antiques in Fochabers took some of Nancy's stuff and we sold some on Facebook Marketplace, too.

"We're grateful to Arradoul SWI for allowing us to sell items at their hall when they were running their Sunday teas during July.

"Vintage Cash Cow were very useful. You pack up a box with the stuff you want to sell and they pay for the postage to send it to them. About three to five days later they'll send you a quote, which you're under no obligation to accept. If you choose not to, they'll post your stuff back to you free of charge."

Nancy lived at Thornybank Farm near Buckie for 36 years after getting married in the early 1960s, later retiring to Mosstodloch before recent making the move to Parklands care home.
