THE chance to see behind the scenes at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen and the classic rom com Pretty Woman are just some of the entertainment options in Aberdeen this coming week.

Running until Saturday, January 20 back stage tours at HMT are available. The popular tours of the 116-year-old Edwardian theatre, designed by the legendary theatre architect Frank Matcham, are 90 minutes long and are led by our enthusiastic volunteers.

The tour explores the new and old sections of the city centre landmark, providing an opportunity to get onstage and see His Majesty’s from the eyes of a performer in one of the most beautiful theatres in Scotland.

Hollywood's ultimate rom com Pretty Woman will be rocking up at His Majesty's from today (Monday) until this Friday.

Once upon a time in the late ’80s, Vivian met Edward and her life changed forever. Be swept up in their romance in this dazzlingly theatrical take on a love story for the ages – and get to know these iconic characters in a whole new way – in a sensational show that took London’s West End by storm, guaranteed to lift your spirits and light up your heart.

With a blazing rock score from Grammy winners Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell and a book by the original movie’s director Garry Marshall and screenwriter JF Lawton, a powerhouse creative team representing the best of music, Hollywood and Broadway ensures you’ll have a pretty magical time at Pretty Woman: The Musical.

Term 2 of the Senior Youth Theatre is heading for the HMT from Tuesday until Tuesday, March 26. The sessions encourage youngsters to actively make choices about the skills they want to build and the work they want to develop.

Teamwork is key as to produce a piece of work which will presented at Light the Blue youth arts festival.

There are Intermediate and Junior versions of the workshops, running from Wednesday, January 17-Wednesday March 27 and Thursday, January 18-Thursday, March 28 respectively.

If someone little you know is already living in their own world of imagination, the Let’s Play! workshops at His Majesty's from Saturday, January 20 to Wednesday, March 30 are the perfect creative route to building confidence and self-expression while making new friends. Through playing games and telling stories, you’ll see how these fun interactive workshops help develop your child’s creativity with a special performance for friends and family at the end of the summer term.

Over at the Lemon Tree on Friday, January 19 Arab Strap will be performing.

The pioneering pioneering Falkirk duo of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton will be performing tracks from their seventh studio album As Days Get Dark.

A poetic exploration of time and place in Aberdeen will be the theme when Symphony in Gray comes to the Music Hall. Running until Saturday, February 17 the title is borrowed from the 1999 Lonely Planet’s Guide, which described the north-east city as “an extraordinary symphony in grey.” This collection of poems invites readers to meander down familiar streets and engage with a multifaceted greyness of complex tones, sometimes devoid of warmth, but never of spirit.

Running at the Music Hall from Monday until Monday, March 25 Tutti Voices will give participants the opportunity to hone their skills as an experienced choir singer in the 20-strong Tutti Voices choir.

From weekly rehearsals to public performances, Tutti Voices celebrate the music that brings us all together, creating a strong sense of belonging and teamwork.

Music experience and an ability to read music is recommended.

Still on a singing theme, term 2 of the Community Choir kicks off at the Music Hall from Tuesday until Tuesday, March 26.

The choir is a great way to find your voice and creativity, while having fun and making friends along the way. Expect a mixed range of music, taking inspiration from the incredible acts performing in our venues, including famous pop ballads, choral classics, favourites from hit musicals or something completely new and different.

Beats and Rhymes returns for a second term on Thursday until Thursday, March 28.

Sign up to find out how to make and record a music track! Let the tutors lead you through the basics of lyric writing, rapping, sampling, and remixing, scratching, singing and sound engineering. All our tutors are musicians with skills in performing, producing and recording and they have loads of experience and tips to share with you.

It doesn’t matter what music you’re into, you don’t have to be a musician or be able to read music – just come and have some fun!
