Buckie Classic Car Show chairman John Clark (inset) has welcomed the £25,000 grant from the Buckie Common Good Fund to help refurbish the Linzee Gordon Park pavilion.

Buckie Classic Car Show Committee, who run the facility, were left celebrating when the town's Common Good Fund backed their plans to revamp the pavilion to the tune of £25,000.

The group have been working hard to breathe new life into the building, which had previously been lying disused.

Car show committee chairman John Clark said: "We signed a management agreement with Moray Council for the pavilion which the local authority had closed many years ago due to the poor state of the building.

"This happened just before the Covid pandemic which forced us to halt our plans to refurbish the pavilion.

"However, once the lockdown was lifted we set about fixing all the drains that run from the pavilion then last year we applied to the Buckie Common Good Fund for funding. In February we were awarded £25,000 to replace all toilets, plumbing works and fit a new kitchen area replacing the old one.

"We're also installing baby changing facilities thus making the pavilion fit for purpose not only for our classic car show event but any community events held in Linzee Gordon Park.

"Two Buckie trades companies – Thistle Plumbing and At Home Construction – will be carrying out the refurbishment which will take two or three months to complete. Hopefully the work will get under way shortly.

"Were very appreciative to Moray Council for the Common Good Fund award and can't thank the three Buckie councillors for all their help in this project."

The volunteer-run committee have also been busy raising cash to drive the refurbishment programme along.

Mr Clark continued: "Since lockdown was lifted we have also been fundraising and raised £10,000 which will also be spent on refurbishment of the pavilion."

With the summer months not too far away thoughts are turning to this year's Classic Car Show, which will see Linzee Gordon Park filled with gleaming examples of motoring heritage. It has already proved hugely popular with enthusiasts keen to exhibit their classic vehicles.

Mr Clark added: "On our Classic Car Show, which is held on Sunday, August 27, opened for entries a two weeks ago and within seven days we had over 500 vehicles registered.

"We'll be welcoming motoring enthusiasts from all over Scotland so we're looking forward to putting on a show for them all."

There will be a special treat in store for fans of hot hatchbacks, with 2023 marking the 50th anniversary of that class of car.

The organisers are also keen to hear from stallholders and food vendors keen to attend the event – those interested should email lorna@buckieclassiccarshow.co.uk in the first instance.
