Arradoul SWI heard about the work of Buckie's Roots at their February meeting.

Joining the meeting were Sandra and Meg from Buckie's Roots. Meg explained how the group started back in 2018 when a couple of people decided to tidy up the then neglected Cluny Square gardens.

Like all good flowers, Buckie's Roots has bloomed since then and now as well as the gardening side of things it also runs community lunches and has a team of litter pickers who have collected over 1000 bags of rubbish to date.

Sandra went on to talk about another branch, Crafty Rooters, which involves volunteer knitters and crafters making flowers and other foliage which she then puts together to produce large floral panels which are displayed around Buckie.

The next panel being produced is Buckie by the Sea and the knitting patterns are available from the Buckie Community Shop for anyone who would like to knit a fish.

The rural members were all given some marigold seeds to grow at home.

The ladies were thanked for a very uplifting talk.

Competitions: Flower of the month – 1. Chris Hennen, 2. Christina Malcolm; Photo of a mini-beast – 1. Sarah Carrington, 2. Christina Malcolm.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 21 at 7.30pm in Arradoul SWI hall when BCHS librarian Stephen Leitch will be talking about World Book Day. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
