A PEACEFUL are for rest and reflection has been created near the centre of Buckie.
An area close by the start/finish of the Speyside Way Walk has been transformed with seating, a picnic table, flower planters and a young tree thanks to the efforts of community group Buckie's Roots.
The area has also been designed to be wheelchair friendly.
While the rain poured during the site's official unveiling that failed to dampen the spirits of Buckie's Roots volunteers plus clients and carers from the Burnie Centre in the town.
Doing the honours by cutting the ribbon to officially unveil the site was Burnie Centre client Jackie Mainland.
Buckie's Roots chairwoman Meg Jamieson said: "We had received a number of generous donations from funerals and so on and we thought creating a rest and remembrance area would be a lovely way to use the money.
"We applied to Acciona for funding and received £1000 towards the seating. We also used the some of the money donated to us to put in planters, with Buckie Tesco kindly supplying the plants.
"It's taken us around a year and a half to get everything in place – the Covid restrictions did hinder our progress a bit."
The unveiling of the rest and remembrance area makes the latest event in what has been a very busy summer for Buckie's Roots. Along with the Buckie Christmas Lights Committee they organised the town's bash in honour of the Queen's platinum jubilee.
They have continued their involvement with Keep Scotland Beautful's It's Your Neighbourhood scheme, for which they picked up an award earlier this year.
The group have also welcomed getting their first Adopt a Neighbourhood initiative up and running, with staff and Buckie swimming pool agreeing to look after an area near the facility
