The volunteer crew were called into action at 5.58pm on Tuesday, October 10.

A spokesman for Buckie RNLI said: "The crew were tasked by the Coastguard to assist a 11m yacht who had suffered engine failure whilst approaching Lossiemouth.

"The yacht was head to wind approximately two miles north of Lossiemouth when the lifeboat arrived on scene.

"After assessing the situation and taking into account the wind direction, rising forecast, darkness and the boat’s mechanical issues the decision was made to tow the vessel to Lossiemouth.

"An alongside tow was established and the yacht was towed safely into Lossiemouth harbour where it was berthed with the assistance of the Coastguard rescue team."

The call-out capped a busy day for the crew, who earlier had joined forces with the Macduff RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard helicopter to come to the aid of two kayakers off the coast of Sandend.
