CROWDS flocked to Buckie Harbour recently when the town's RNLI lifeboat station held an open day.

Between 600 and 1000 people from near and far made their way to the Buckie Lifeboat Day on Saturday, September 3, the first such event to be held at the station since the pandemic.

There was plenty to do for young and old alike, and to mark the return of the popular day out a series of rowing races for the inaugural Blue Light Trophy was held. The local RNLI crew scooped the silverware, fending off stiff competition from crews from the police, fire service, ambulance and Coastguard.

There was an opportunity for visitors to the day to try their hand at rowing on some of the visiting skiffs, as well as tours of the lifeboat station and the lifeboat herself, the William Blannin.

There were a number of stalls on hand, including those selling RNLI souvenirs, with food, drink and ice cream also available.

Buckie RNLI would like to thank the other emergency services, businesses and individual helpers who made the day special: Police Scotland; Scottish Fire and Rescue Service; HM Coastguard; Scottish Ambulance Service; Little Kitchen outside catering; Little Miss Whippy; Scottish Coastal Rowing Association; Cockenzie and Port Seton Skiff Rowing Club; Darren Bremner and the Buckie Harbour staff, Councillor Sonya Warren; Lisa Grant (photographer); Janet Simpson, Fiona Watt and Brit Souter (souvenir stall); All the bakers!

The local RNLI team are keen to hear from people interested in becoming volunteer crew, shore-based fund-raising volunteers or water safety advisors. They are also looking for someone to take on the role of souvenir secretary.

No experience is necessary for any of these positions as training will be provided.

For more information on these roles, visit Buckie RNLI's Facebook page.
