The champions made the trip to North Kessock to face the league newcomers on Sunday and effectively had the game won by half time. A peach of a long range strike by captain Rebecca McMillan set the visitors on their way before a four-goal deluge by Gardiner gave Buckie a 5-0 lead at the break.

The hosts rallied in the second half but could not take their chances and pulled one back later on, only for Gemma Geddes to add a sixth for Buckie.

Buckie manager Laura Duncan said: "I'm absolutely delighted at the win, just chuffed.

"It was so hot, it was roasting and muggy during the game which were difficult conditions for both teams to play in.

"The scoreline definitely reflected the the state of play. We dominated the first half but they upped their game in the second half. However, we left them with too much to do and they couldn't take their chances.

"It was a good team performance overall. We were short of players so I gave three of the under-16s a start and they all did very well. It was useful experience of playing first team football and learning from the experienced players."

Next up is a trip to Nairn next Sunday, with the game due to be played at the Academy's pitch.

Duncan added: "I'm quietly confident we'll get a result there if we keep on playing the way we have been.

"However, you never know and we'll be taking nothing for granted."
