TWO Buckie councillors are encouraging local people to have their say on the future of the school estate in the area.

The engagement aims to examine a number of factors, including the use, occupancy, suitability and condition of all Moray schools. The goal is to deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose and affordable learning estate for communities across Moray.

Buckie ASG (Associated Schools Group) is in the second phase of a Moray-wide consultation process.

Next week sees two drop-in consultations being held locally. The first will get under way on Monday at the Fishermen's Hall at 11am and running until 7pm, while the following day it will be at Cullen Library from 2.30pm-7pm where members of the public will have the opportunity to speak to members of the council's education team.

A similar session was held yesterday in the Fishermen's Hall, Buckie.

Local councillors Sonya Warren and Neil McLennan are encouraging local people to make sure they have their say, whether in person or via the online survey.

Councillor Warren said: "The consultation covers everything from the condition of schools, sizes of school, environmental issues, location of schools, the wider facilities such as sport halls, as well as suitability.

"It's important that everyone gets involved, as our schools are an important part of our communities, not just for learning and teaching for children, but for the wider community too. What we decide now will impact on families and communities for many years to come.

"It's important that everyone's thoughts and ideas are heard and listened to. We need to make sure our schools are in suitable condition and are able to help our education team provide learning and teaching fit for the 21st century."

Councillor McLennan commented: "I recently shared this consultation and a police consultation.

"It is so important communities engage in these so that their views are recorded for decision makers. I have already flagged up evidenced issues with Buckie High School building and will continue to do so.

"Across primary and secondary learning estate it will now be interesting to hear the thought of the community and those using our learning estate."

The online survey closes at 5pm on Thursday, March 14.

The roll out of other ASG focused engagement across Moray will continue over the next 18 months.
