TWO years after Buckie was trumpeted as the first community in Scotland to be enabled as part of a £410 million publicly-funded scheme to bring superfast broadband to 95 per cent of the country by 2017-18, the reality is a long way from that.

Domestic and commercial customers aired their broadband concerns at a meeting chaired by Banffshire Advertiser group editor Chris Saunderson.

The meeting on Friday night had been called by Moray MP Angus Robertson, who was accompanied by Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson.

Mr Robertson told the meeting that he had been inundated with complaints about the service, with many saying delivery did not match the promised service.

"Access to a good broadband service these days is a staple not a luxury," said Mr Robertson. "It’s not about playing games, it’s about people doing business and doing their jobs."

He will raise the concerns at a meeting with BT on February 29.

For more on the meeting see the Advertiser print version on Tuesday.
