Buckie Army cadets are happy campers

ARMY cadets from the Buckie area joined others from across the north-east of Scotland in attending annual summer camp.
Hosting the event this year, which was making its comeback after a Covid-enforced absence, was the Queen Elizabeth Barracks at Strensall in Yorkshire.
There was plenty for the youngsters to do during their time at the camp.
Included in a packed itinerary were the new Army Cadet Syllabus training, a fieldcraft exercise, an expedition, target shooting and a full day of adventurous training. There was also the opportunity to visit to a local attraction.
The camp ran from July 16-29.
In addition to gaining leadership skills, discipline and self-confidence cadets also learn a wide range of transferable skills such as: the ability to command tasks; make decisions under pressure; plan and organise tasks and work as an effective team player as well as independently.
Cadet training can lead to valuable qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, BTEC First Diploma in Public Services or Music or the ILM Certificate in Team Leading.
