Councillor Warren said: "Active Travel is a big part of community and local planning going forward.

"There will be an active travel local plan developed in the future.

This will be a great way of identifying the wants and needs of the local community, and addressing local issues.

"The idea of this group is to tie things together, look at what is important to our community, look at points that need further improvement, maybe even dropped kerbs, lighting, a footpath or improvement to existing walk/cycle paths. Looking at everything that will make it easier to get about the town without a car, using more sustainable forms of transport.

"Making our existing routes more enjoyable or safer is also an aim of the group.

"If we start assessing the need and looking at folks ideas and opinions now, we will be one step ahead for the local active travel plan."

Councillor McLennan commented: “I am delighted to hear of progress with the Active Travel group.

"It has been discussed for some time and I know various issues are raised with councillors relating to this. I look forward to supporting the success of this venture alongside other Buckie councillors.”

Councillor Stuart added: "The Active Travel group is going to be a well-needed chance to hear from local people about what they feel is needed.

"We hear time and time again that there is a lack of safe infrastructure for people to get in and around our town. I look forward to supporting the set-up of this group and see what differences the people of Buckie can champion together."

The meeting is due to get under way at 7pm.
