AN appeal on Facebook has returned dividends for a Buckie Community High School (BCHS) football team.

The senior girls side are now proudly sporting brand new strips thanks to a £500 donation from local firm Associated Seafoods Ltd (ASL).

PE teacher Monica Wilson, who coaches the team, said: "We put a post up on Facebook post looking for sponsorship and ASL got back to us very quickly with the offer of £500.

"We're very grateful for this generosity, it has allowed us to buy new strips for an 11-a-side team which means we can also use them to kit out two of the smaller sides, as well.

"Before we got these we did have older kit, including hand-me-downs from Buckie Thistle, but these had all been well-used.

"The girls got a say in how the strips should look, they really love them."

Handing over the new kit on behalf of ASL was Technical Systems Manager Tammy Rendall.

She commented: "We look at each request individually and see who we can support in the local area, supporting the community is very important to ASL as a business.

"We put money aside each year for community projects and decide as requests come in what we can and can’t support."

Ms Rendall added that the firm has a long-standing relationship with the school, including mentoring students under the Career Ready programme.

The strips made their debut when BCHS hosted the Moray Inter-School Tournament on Wednesday, March 6 at the all-weather pitch next to the school.
