Wages slashed as council cuts back

HUNDREDS of workers in Banffshire face substantial pay cuts following plans by Aberdeenshire Council to slash their terms and conditions.

Unions warn that lowest paid staff, many in essential frontline jobs, stand to be hit the hardest – with some losing thousands of pounds they can ill afford.

Some have already lost earnings to other changes in recent years, and pay freezes for the past two years have also made council staff poorer in real terms as the cost of living has soared.
