Storm repairs to battered Banffshire

REPAIRS are under way in the Banffshire area after the north-east was battered by rain storms.
An emergency road closure was put in place at Crovie due to safety concerns after cracks were found in the carriageway.
A section of Gardenstown was also closed off after a landslide. A section of the cliffs overlooking the former Tarlair outdoor swimming pool also gave way.
In Turriff, the River Deveron burst its banks, closing the Deveron Bridge and engulfing Turriff United’s football pitch in water.
The affected area in Crovie is below the Mink Howe informal car park, on the lower slope.
Aberdeenshire Council carried out a letter drop in the village to make people aware and gave people time to move parked cars.
Pedestrian access to the village is being maintained, unless circumstances change.
Councillor Hamish Partridge said: “Until the council know more about the seriousness of the situation it is appropriate to prevent further loading of the slope from passing vehicles.
“Aberdeenshire Council will be carrying out a more extensive investigation over the coming days.

In Gardenstown, the landslip forced the closure of the New Ground area beside a recycling skip on the west side of the port.
