A YOUNG man who robbed a Banff petrol station assistant at knifepoint has
been jailed for two years.
Thomas Windebank (22) masked his identity with a balaclava, Banff Sheriff Court heard last week.
However, he dropped the bavaclava as he fled the scene, and DNA from it and a large knife which was also recovered, led to his capture.
The court also heard how Windebank, of Easter Auds Cottages, Boyndie, near Banff had descended into his desperate criminal action after becoming heavily involved in drugs, losing his job and getting into debt “with a number of people that you would not want to be in debt to”.
Windebank pleaded guilty to assaulting a lone female assistant at the Victoria Filling Station in Victoria Road on June 16 of this year by presenting a knife at her and robbing her of £300.
Fiscal depute Raymond O’Brien told how the accused entered the station’s shop wearing a hooded top and his face partially covered by a bavaclava.
