Small gardens are the focus

GREEN-fingered pupils in the area have been encouraged to follow in the footsteps of Macduff Primary School by taking part in Keep Scotland Beautiful's annual Pocket Garden Competition.

It challenges pupils to create a garden design which could feature as part of a major display at Gardening Scotland this summer.

Macduff Primary is one of the local schools which has taken part in the contest in the past.

Schools from across Scotland are being encouraged to take part in the Pocket Garden Competition by designing a garden that celebrates Scotland's landscape by linking plants and place with water and changing climate.

The competition will challenge children to consider and learn about the environment in a fun, hands-on and informal manner.

Food and environment officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, Eve Keepax, said: "Our annual One Planet Picnic Pocket Garden Competition is a practical and fun way for pupils to learn about food, the environment and biodiversity – all linking to our changing climate."
