Sign up for police road reports

WITH the prospect of winter weather around the corner, Grampian Police is encouraging the public to sign up to its social networking sites in order to be kept up to date with road condition reports.

As well as the force’s corporate website, Grampian has official presences on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook and will be keeping all three sites updated with the latest road reports and road conditions in order to help members of the public plan their journeys.

Inspector Iain Murray, head of corporate communications, said: "Over the past 18 months we have been gradually creating a presence on social networking sites and we have been developing our use of them to communicate key messages to the public.

"Last year we made use of Twitter and the website to communicate road closures and road conditions on a daily basis, and we felt that this worked well. We have recently created a page on Facebook and so we intend to keep all three sites updated so that members of the public can receive regular checks, particularly when out and about.

Road Safety Manager Leslie Harrold said: "It is important to keep the public informed of how the weather is affecting roads at this time of year so they can avoid getting into difficulty."

Inspector Murray added: "Based on the previous two winters, being able to get relevant information out to the public as quickly as possible during severe weather to help ensure their safety is paramount and the social networking sites will be a huge benefit."
