POLICE fired a foam-tipped round at a man believed to have a weapon at a house near Alvah early this morning.
Grampian Police said a "Home Office-approved non-lethal, foam-ended projectile" was discharged "to distract" the man before his arrest. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
Police officers had attended can a disturbance at a rural property just off the A97 near Alvah at around 11.15pm yesterday.
A police spokesman said: "We had been called out by a member of the public concerned for the wellbeing of a man believed to be in possession of a weapon.
"Officers were involved in dialogue with the sole occupant of the house who was taken into police custody at around 7:50am this morning.
"While no one was injured during the incident, armed officers were deployed and a Home Office approved non lethal projectile was discharged by police.
"The decision to use the projectile launcher was taken with the full authority of force command officers. The projectile is specifically designed to incapacitate a person with minimal risk of harm or injury."
Assistant Chief Constable Colin Menzies said: "Regrettably it is sometimes necessary for police officers to resort to the use of force to resolve situations where the public or officers themselves are at risk.
"As a result of our actions I must stress that no further injury or harm was caused to the man arrested, the public or the officers concerned."
